City Year Detroit Fundraiser

For the second year in a row, I have helped to plan a fundraiser for an organization called City Year at Fountain Bistro.  The event is on June 16th and goes from 6:30 – 9:30pm.  It will be a blast with live blues by Delta 5, a delicious assortment of hors d’oeuvres, a wonderful silent auction, and some great company.  Beer, wine, and mixed drinks are also included in the $50 admission.  Over the past four years the event has raised nearly $30,000.  This year, the event is a month later, which will really allow us to enjoy the beauty of Campus Martius Park in the Summer including the Beach.

If you aren’t familiar with City Year, it is an organization that allows college age adults to spend a year providing service to the community as Corp Members.  The Corps Members are placed in poor, low performing schools around the city and inner ring suburbs where they focus on assisting those students most in danger of dropping out.  City Year’s programs give children, who the system is failing, a strong chance to succeed.  Their programs have a proven track record of success that is backed up by both qualitative and quantitative data. I sincerely believe that this is one of the programs that is helping to turn around the education system in Detroit and to level the playing field for kids in the city.

I wanted to post about this great event because I believe many of our followers out there are people who care about Detroit.  I would love to have you join us for what is sure to be a great time supporting a truly worthy cause.  If you are interested in attending, please sign up online.  If you can’t come and want to make a donation, you can do so on the Eventbrite sign up page linked above. Any amount you can donate helps.
